Day 23 : Quick! Run to the House!

May 23, 2023

"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.' "     Psalm 91:1-2

Recently I was caught is a huge thunderstorm in my shop that is a metal building about 300 yards from my house. The storm was intense!  Strong winds, heavy rain, and golf ball size hail. The building was shaking and the sound was deafening as the hail pounded the metal roof. In that moment, all I could think of was I needed to get to my home. There in my home, I would be safe. It would protect me from the storm.

In the same way, Psalm 91: 1-2 reminds us of the incredible protection and refuge we find in God. It describes dwelling in the shelter of the Most High, finding rest in the shadow of the Almighty. It encourages us to proclaim that the Lord is our refuge, our fortress, and the one in whom we place our trust.

In a world that often feels uncertain and overwhelming, we can find peace and security in knowing that God is our refuge. Just as our home provides safety and comfort during a storm, God offers us a spiritual refuge in the midst of life's challenges.

Let's take a moment to think about times when we have experienced God's refuge and protection in our lives. It might be moments of comfort during difficult times, answers to prayers, or the sense of peace that surpasses understanding.

As we continue our journey of faith as a family, let's encourage one another to continually dwell in the shelter of the Most High. Let's remind each other that we can trust in God's faithfulness, knowing that He is our fortress and source of strength.

Questions to consider:

  1. Has there been a “storm” in my life where I needed God to protect me?  A time or event that I needed to go to the Father and find my shelter and rest in Him?
  2. Can we think of any families or friends that are going through their own “storms” that could use the comfort and protection that God offers? If so, let’s pray for them that they turn to Him and dwell in the shelter of the Most High.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, thank You for being my refuge and fortress. Thank you for the shelter and rest I find in Your presence. Help me to continually dwell in You and to trust in Your unfailing love. May our family be one that seeks Your refuge and finds peace in Your shadow. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
